Josean Alija was born in 1978.
At 14 years old, Josean Alija became one of the youngest students to enter the Leioa Catering School.
He started to work in the kitchens of the famous Guggenheim Museum in 1998. But in the year 2000 Josean Alija, suffered an accident that had him on the verge of death. When he was recovered, Alija lost his sense of taste and smell.
During his recovery process, in which he had to work on retraining his senses of taste and smell, he wins the Young Chef contest, which gives him the motivation to continue in the culinary world.
In 2011, Josean Alija inaugurates his own space in the museum, opening Nerua and receiving that same year his first Michelin Star.
Since 2013, Josean Alija has collaborated weekly with ON magazine and the radio station Onda Vasca to explain in depth the products and materials with which he works, in order to facilitate their use and bring them closer to the general public and the kitchens of any home.
